The SYMBIOSE system:

Strasbourg International Airport now has an automatic system for noise and flight path monitoring near the airport.

The system is called SYMBIOSE, Système de Mesure du Bruit, d'Information et d'Observation de Strasbourg Entzheim (System for noise measurement, information and observation of Strasbourg Entzheim) is up and running since January 1st 2002.

Other airports also have systems of this type, but SYMBIOSE is the first system to be given a positive operating appreciation by the Technical Department of Aviation. On 17 December 2004, in accordance with the decree of 20 July 2004, the ACNUSA gave the go-ahead to the approval of SYMBIOSE by interministerial decree.

The order of 29 July 2005 on the homologation of the noise measurement and aircraft trajectory monitoring system put in place around Strasbourg-Entzheim airport was published in the Journal Officiel of 31 August 2005.

SYMBIOSE is made up of 5 fixed stations and a mobile station connected to an analysis system that correlates the noise data measured and recorded with radar information about the flights, from the Civil Aviation Authority, North East.

When the noise is due to an aircraft, that crossing of data makes it possible to identify with certainty the aircraft that is the reason for the event.

The monthly bulletin of SYMBIOSE

A monthly information bulletin is circulated to the Members of the Advisory Environment Commission. The content of the bulletin, which is a valuable tool for dialogue, meets the recommendations of ACNUSA and is revised to take on board the comments of its readers. It is primarily a transparent response to the queries of the surrounding community and an objective tracking tool for aircraft noise, which is part and parcel of the environmental policy of Strasbourg International Airport.

In accordance with its commitments, the airport responds to specific requests from the surrounding community as the system used provides the possibility to inform them of any one noise event or flight that may have left a lasting impression.
