Security / Safety

FROM MONDAY 6 of NOVEMBER 2006:
RESTRICTIVE MEASURE REGARDING LIQUIDS AND GELS CONTAINED IN CABIN BAGGAGE

regulation no. 1546/2006 of the European Commission

In order to avoid slowing down security procedures and to prevent the risk of having your products confiscated prior to boarding, it is important to read this information.

HELPFUL HINT
Check in as much of your luggages as possible, and pack in your hold baggage only what is strictly necessary during the flight.

If you are travelling without checked luggage and only with hold baggage, you will have to place your liquids in a resealable, transparent bag (i.e. a “freezer bag” measuring approximately 20 cm x 20 cm).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Which flights are concerned ?

All flights departing from airports within the European Union (as well as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland) regardless of their destination, including domestic flights, and regardless of the nationality of the airline.

Connecting passengers

* If your first flight comes from a country in the European Union and your second flight is departing from a European airport (as well as Norway, Iceland and Switzerland) : you may make in-flight purchases and purchases in airport shops. These purchases must then be secured in a resealable transparent bag.

* If you have a later connecting flight in a country outside of the European Union :
you must find out in advance, from the airline, about any restrictions that may be imposed.

* If your first flight arrives from a non-European country and your second flight departs from a European airport (or from Norway, Iceland or Switzerland) : we advise you to place all your liquids in your checked baggage, prior to your departure, including any liquids purchased in airport shops outside of the European Union; otherwise, they will be confiscated at the security checkpoints when you make your connection, except for any liquids secured in a resealable transparent bag measuring approximately 20 cm x 20 cm.

Which items are prohibited ?

Liquids, aerosol sprays, gels and pastes: mineral water, perfume, beverages, lotion, cream, shower gel, shampoo, mascara, soup, syrup, toothpaste, liquid soap, deodorant etc.

What is the maximum size of containers that may be carried on board ?

No container may exceed 100 ml.

What is the maximum size of the plastic bag ?

The transparent plastic bag (freezer bag type) must measure approximately 20 cm x 20 cm. A bag may contain several items, tubes, bottles, aerosol sprays.

Where can I get a plastic bag ?

You can purchase this type of plastic bag (freezer-bag type) in shops and supermarkets.
At Strasbourg International Airport, if you have forgotten to bring your plastic bag, you may obtain one at the counter when you check in, or as a last resort, at the security screening checkpoint.

However, to save time, we advise you to bring your own plastic bag to the airport.

What exceptions can be made ?

- Liquid medications

You may bring liquid medications (insulin, syrup etc.) in your cabin baggage as long as you present a certificate or prescription in your name to the security screeners.
There are no restrictions on solid medications (tablets and capsules).

- Liquid baby food

There are no restrictions on these products. Remember to use containers that are resealable: you may be required to taste this food !

To avoid delays at the security checkpoints :

Remove your jacket or coat.

Present separately:

Find out before making your purchase.
Liquids may be purchased after the security check
without limitation other than customs restrictions.
